SpinTrip IconSpinTrip, one of Clickgamer‘s latest offerings, is a great platformer that owes its magic to the group of creative minds over at Ablemagic. They’ve done with SpinTrip what they aim to do in all their work, and that is to put a compelling story behind their creations. So it should come as no surprise that SpinTrip sets out in a mysterious wonderland filled with magical creatures called Chibs.

Players have the choice of playing as either Noss or Lillme, two blue skinned creatures called ’tiso’s. They will then kartwheel accross the land as a ’tiso, riding inside a circular contraption of sorts, collecting an old woman’s stolen Chibs that were taken by a giants.

Chibs are strange little creatures, each with their own unique special ability that will help in overcoming obstacles along the way. If one is a fan of the classic Kirby games, then you’ll like SpinTrip. Unlike the Kirby games however, players can hold in their Chib inventory a wide range of abilities at one time. To collect Chibs into the wheel, simply ride past them and they come along for the ride, but remember, each Chib collected has a predifined amount of usage so it’s best to use them accordingly until you have plenty to spare.

The controls of the game are simple. There are left, right, and jump buttons, in addition to the inventory of Chibs up top. While this type of configuration is often times intrusive to the view of the game, it is not the case here. While tilt based gameplay is not an option, the touch based controls work just fine and aren’t a hassle to play with.

Some things that could be improved however are Chib selection, and both acceleration and deceleration of the wheel. The somewhat slow pace at which the wheel accelerates and comes to a stop makes maneuvering it a bit arduous at times, and changing Chibs on the fly when enemies are spotted isn’t exactly a breeze when gamers can’t easily reach a certain Chib with the hand they are not using to maneuver the wheel. Otherwise, gameplay is pretty functional and the aforementioned annoyances are far from glaring issues that cripple the game.

Visually, SpinTrip isn’t going to be making headlines, however parents will definitely find its children’s book look and story appealing. On the flipside, SpinTrip has got an enchanting soundtrack. The soothing melodies definitely go hand in hand with the game, and add to the magical wonderland setting of the game. The cocktail of relaxing wind chime’s, flutes, ambience, and jittery type sounds are soothing as can be and are even both eerie and cutesy at times.

All in all, SpinTrip is a great platformer with an interesting spin, pun intended, and offers hours of gameplay for a great price.
