Teach Me :Second Grade (Universal) by 24×7 Digital LLC is the latest children’s educational app from the popular Teach Me series. Also featured from the developer is  Teach Me:Toddler, Teach Me:Kindergarten, and Teach Me:First Grade.  

Teach Me: Second Grade’s is somewhat misleading. This is not a complete second – grade level curriculum. What makes the whole Teach Me series valuable is the ability to grow as children’s skills grow. 

Contained within the app are different learning games that focus on foundational literacy and numeric skills. Addition, subtraction, dolch words, and spelling are featured. Within addition and subtraction contain opportunities for timed practice, or fast math, as well as long addition and subtraction practice with two digit numbers. As children progress within Teach Me: Second Grade, the skills become progressively difficult. 

The classically crafted Mimi Mouse provides verbal instructions to children, positive reinforcement, and opportunities to correct errors in a supported manner. Children write the answers using the intuitive writing recognition engine. Should the child form letters or numbers incorrectly, the app will visually show children how to form correct numbers and letters, which reinforces the skill being taught, as well as provides the opportunity to get the answer correct. If a child cannot form letters and numbers, they can use the device’s keyboard, which makes for true accessibility. 

Children earn coins as they progress. Coins can be redeemed at the various stops within TeachTown where they can make fun photos at the Photobooth, collect stretchable shapes at the Shape Store, visit their virtual aquarium at the Fish Store, and decorate different scenes at the Art Store. 

What Teach Me: Second Grade offers to parents and teachers is the ability to customize learning for children. There are a lots of settings to tailor the learning for each child that is using the app. Teach Me: Second Grade allows profiles for up to four children, and in-app purchases are available to add up to 35 students. Choose the topics to be taught, the number of correct problems before earning coins, and more. 

Overall, Teach Me: Second Grade is a solid app. With a smooth interface, powerful writing recognition engine, and customizations galore, this is an app that has plenty of bang for the buck. The classic simplicity of the app will appeal to teachers and parents, as well as children that don’t need a lot of flashy extras or extraneous distractions.
