Action Driver (universal) is an endless runner game developed by Donut Games. Players must drive fast in order to collect as much cash as possible all while dodging cars, grenades and holes in the road, and there is so much action gamers will come back for more.
Action Driver features two control schemes: swipe or buttons. Swipe controls allow players to move their finger up and down the left side of the screen to control the car, while directional arrows on buttons help gamers move up and down more quickly. Regardless of which gamers choose, acceleration is controlled by touching on the right side of the screen.
Each time players start a new game, the streets are randomized with new objects and challenges. Obstacle’s appearances are intense and add suspense to the game. Rocks fall from the sky, limos throw grenades and ramps appear for players to jump over holes.
Action Driver is filled with Game Center achievements that make the endless runner addictive. These achievements range from Cone Wrecker to Cargo Snatcher. Game Center global leaderboards are also a part of the game, and if players beat their friends scores, Donut Games’ in-game notification system will let them know.
The graphics have a retro arcade feel to them, but they look impressive on retina display. The music and sound effects add to the atmosphere of the game and make players feel like they are really racing down a busy street.
While Action Driver is so filled with a lot of achievements and challenges, that I sometimes felt like the game had too much packed into it. I kept dying over and over again, and each time for a different reason. I couldn’t make it past 100 points after playing the game for 15 minutes, but the replayable nature of the game kept me hooked. I preferred the swipe controls over the buttons because I felt like the traditional controls were a little too sensitive.
Action Driver is a frantic endless runner that players won’t grow tired of quickly. The game can be frustrating at times, but it doesn’t deter one from going just one more round to complete achievements and move up on leaderboards. The game is an endless real thrill ride well worth the the small asking price.
