Barricaded from the city, it’s humanity’s last stand against a zombie invasion. Call of Mini: Last Stand (universal) is the third in the Call of Mini series of zombie combat games from Triniti Interactive. This first person survival shooter will entertain anyone that wants to test their wits against hordes of vicious zombies.
Muerte Vista, the gun-toting sheriff, nestles himself atop the last safe building and defends his people from the ensuing zombies. Armed, at the start, with only a sniper rifle and an assault rifle, the sheriff clears the way for innocent victims to flee safely into a nearby church. To help make an impact, there are flammable containers and explosive trucks located on the field. Shooting these will clear an area from a small vicinity to the entire screen.
Wave after wave, the zombies shamble their way towards the base camp. As they reach the gates of the camp, alarms sound a warning of the imminent breach. If they get through the level is over. Each level is time based and at certain points a cut scene will initiate a larger surge of zombies. This continues until either the zombies get into the church, or three fleeing humans are killed at the hands of the player or an explosion.
Once a level is over, the player accumulates money based on the success of their performance. With that money they can purchase stronger weapons and new weapons like bombs and rocket launchers. The usual in-app purchases can speed up this process, if you want to get access to the powerful guns quicker.
The controls are very smooth and easy to handle. The screen is used as a directional pad to target the zombies and double tapping anywhere on the screen will zoom the gun into that spot. There is button for shooting and switching guns. These two buttons are spread from the top to the bottom of the screen. The only thing that would be of a benefit is putting the buttons closer in proximity to each other. On the smaller devices, the distance would barely be noticeable, but with the iPad that distance becomes a small hurdle.
Call of Mini: Last Stand is not be a groundbreaking or diverse FPS, but it definitely holds the fort as a solid, action-packed shooter with a lot of exciting gameplay.
