The folks at CGMatic are back with their newest endless runner ChickenBreak (universal), which takes a lot of familiar aspects from popular casual games and combines them into quite a fun experience. Think of ChickenBreak as Jetpack Joyride meets Fruit Ninja: players control a jail-breaking chicken by swiping and tapping different objects and buttons on the screen. Combos can be created by stringing together rocket-erasing swipe combos, and perfect taps of the different buttons on the screen to avoid obstacles.
There are also coins to pick up from destroying said rockets, but in its initial release version, there isn’t a whole lot to do with those coins. Outside of some one-time use power-ups and the ability to add one additional life and shield for each run, the game quickly wears down without some sort of replay value outside of high score chasing.
But that’s not to say ChickenBreak is a disappointment: its definitely one of the more frenetic games in the App Store when it comes to screen interaction. If players can survive through more than two or three prisons, the game will really start to test reflexes, and will put even the fastest digits to the test.
ChickenBreak benefits from its crisp, clean visual style, with a small number of distinctive backgrounds and interactive objects for each one. And of course there is a catchy tune included – what endless title would be complete without one?
With a little bit more content, CGMatic is going to have a fun and unique little runner on their hands in ChickenBreak. There’s some serious promise in this poultry-centric game, already a fast-paced, interactive casual title fans of the genre will be happy they spent their buck on.
