Not every app has to be overly complex to act as a useful utility. StillShot from Macadamia Apps is a straightforward app, and does exactly what it sets out to do. The app lets you grab still frames from any video you’ve recorded. It’s as simple as that, and works perfectly at its single task. The iPhone 4S recorded 1080P video normally at 30 frames per second, which means you have 30 individual frames to choose from for each second of your video.
It’s tough to always get the best single picture, and now you can choose the best picture by just recording footage. Videos can also be a bit cumbersome to share, and sometimes you just want a single picture. StillShot comes in handy in multiple ways, and it works with the full resolution of the video.
That means you can save and share 1920 x 1080 photos that freeze the action. There are so many great shots you can find in just a short video that would be almost impossible to capture when trying to take a regular photo.
The app allows you to have a high-speed camera on your iPhone since you’re really capturing 30 different photos per second in a pseudo burst mode. The interface is extremely easy as well making it easy to find the best still shots.
You can play your video or scrub though it, and then swipe between each frame when you get to a good sequence. You can then save the photos to your camera roll or share to Facebook & Twitter with a single tap.
StillShot works exactly as advertised, and is a great photography utility. The app also provides the ability to view your videos flip book style, and see some hilarious frames that would be tough to catch by just watching the video.
