Nimblebit has come a long way with excellent $.99 casual games, then switching gears to freemium. Pocket Planes (universal) is their newest FTP game wherein players begin with a few planes, and three airports, and then expand  to travel to over 250 cities worldwide. The game features the same art style and time management gameplay as Tiny Tower, but really expands it in all new ways.

Play begin at an airport. There are jobs at each with different passengers and cargo and going different places. The plane can only hold a certain number of passengers and cargo, and your goal is for each flight to make a profit.  Each trip earns you coins, and you can use those coins to unlock new airports and new jobs. New planes with larger capacity and greater range to complete several jobs across multiple cities in one flight unlock.

The game relies on “box” that are used to speed flights, or buy new planes. Pocket Planes has gradual learning curve, is alluring, with lots of incentive to buy in-app currency. While there is a strong push towards IAPS  the game can be played for free, and it’s made to be mobile as you can jump in when you have a few spare minutes, set up some flights, and then come back to it later when you get a little more time.

There are different things happening around the world, and when players unlock an airport with an event, they get special passengers and cargo to fly. Gamers can team up with others in Flight Crew – an incentive to keep us playing.

Pocket Planes has so much going on which builds replay value. The game is packed with personality with the Bitbook, costumes, customizable planes and more.

Steady progress is the best part of the game as airline grow and players have more of the map uncovered. There’s also strategy in combining different cargo to go fly the most direct route,. Pocket Planes has all the makings to be hit. It’s a great download. Now please excuse me, one of my planes just landed.
