Dan Russell-Pinson has created an incredibly fun physics game for children of all ages. Monster Physics will have children building all types of objects in order to complete missions or just for the simple fun of it.

Monster Physics is an educational game for children ages ten and above. It has three activities: missions, building, and learning. In the learning section, children become familiar with common physics vocabulary terms. They can build any type of object they can imagine using some or all of the 68 included parts.

Kids are given an objective for their monster to accomplish in the mission section. Using those same 68 parts, children build, restructure, or remove items on each mission screen to reach their goal.

Parts used in the build and mission areas of Monster Physics include shapes made out of a variety of materials: connectors (rope, chains, joiners), and special items such as a rocket, cannon, and propeller. Using these, children can make cars that actually drive, rockets that fly, and cranes that pickup and move things.

Although my children are still too young for Monster Physics, I had a blast testing it. I’m not a huge gamer, but I actually played this one for several hours. Children in the target age group will enjoy being able to customize their monster and save it to one of the five player slots available.

When in the mission section, players chose to start at any one of the five skill levels. No matter where a kids starts, they’ll progress through the missions without noticing the levels changing. The great thing about Monster Physics is that there are several ways to solve each puzzle. This lends itself to creative problem solving and adds replay value.

Combining a physics game with an educational twist, Monster Physics is sure to become a favorite of children and parents alike. The graphics and sound effect bring everything together in a beautifully well done and mentally challenging package that is perfect for light summer learning.
