A Western-themed follow up to the very popular original, Squids Wild West (universal) from The Game Bakers is an exciting turn-based strategy RPG that’ll keep players busy fighting back the Black Ooze for hours.
The gameplay is simple and unique: sling squids across the screen into enemies, levers and more to complete the level. Squids Wild West has over 1o different squids to choose from with different abilities such as dashing through currents, shooting enemies at a distance, body-slamming enemies, and healing party members by bumping into them.
Squids Wild West isn’t the easiest game, but luckily there’s a well-stocked store with plenty of power-ups to make the job easier. By collecting the pearls dropped by defeated enemies, players can restore hit points, get extra weapons, bump attributes and even revive fallen squid comrades.
Thanks to all this content, Squids Wild West clearly has a ton of replay value. Due to the different characters and their abilities, there’s an endless amount of ways to play through and complete every level. Seeing as though there’s a ton of levels, though, it may take a while before replay even comes into mind.
For example, defeating enemies always inspires some thoughtful strategy. Is the easiest way to victory to slam into them, send them into a spiked object, bounce an enemy off the wall for a double hit or send them into some exploding lobsters? There’s plenty of options to get the level completed efficiently and quickly for extra points at the end.
The only downside to Squids Wild West is the leveling system. The leveling has to be done manually by clicking on a “Level Up” button back in the base. Since players don’t get to choose where points go toward certain attributes, it would make sense for the game to simply level up the characters itself.
Squids Wild West (universal) is a must-have game. Its simple enough that anyone can play, but with so much thought into its characters and battle system, it is a game both strategy and RPG fans – both hardcore and casual – can enjoy for long periods of time.
