Left2Die (universal) from Everplay Interactive might feature the most saturated style of game play in the App Store: the zombie-themed dual stick shooter. But that didn’t stop the devs, and it’s a good thing: Left 2 Die is a surprisingly fresh take on the dual stick shooter, with some unique modes and perks players will enjoy.
The highlight of these innovations is the online multiplayer, a real game changer for the genre. Other games have definitely tried, but Left2Die has nailed the sweet spot to deliver a seamless online zombie shooting experience. Players can invite a Game Center friend for a match, or jump right in with a random player, for a round of co-op or death match mode.
The online connection is smooth, the amount of zombies on screen provides tons of action, and it’s enjoyable each time. There are three different regions, diner, market, or farm to battle with or against a friend while dealing with waves of zombies. The online component lets the game stand-out, and there’s also a deluxe single player campaign with 60 levels across the three environments.
My only issue with the campaign is that each level is about killing a progressive number of zombies, although varied objectives would make it great. Sometimes the wave-based levels can run together with not only its own levels, but the other games in the genre, and it does get repetitive sometimes.
But it still provides hours of fun: the more zombies killed, the more money earned to buy new weapons, upgrade existing ones, and unlock new characters. The upgrades also hold over in the online multiplayer, which earns plenty of cash, too. There’s a great 3D design to round out the zombie shooter.
Whether it’s the detailed environments, zombie design, or killing animations, it’s all great to see. The zombie spawning and speed is also worth commending as it makes for an action packed shooter regardless of mode. Left2Die (universal) stands out from the crowd, and is a feature rich dual stick zombie shooter. The game is a should buy that excels online, and provides an engaging experience for a tired genre.

Fun game.
