Ticket to Ride (also available for iPhone) by Days of Wonder is a popular board game all around the world, both in its cardboard and digital forms. And today, the developers released a major update to the iPad version of the game, including the first new digital map pack in nearly 7 years. And with Ticket to Ride passing a million downloads on iOS, there’s no better time to celebrate with some new content.
The first thing players will notice after the update is the beautiful new Retina-ready UI, enhanced to take full advantage of the new iPad screen. There’s also 45 new achievements added to the game, including 15 on the US map, five in the 1910 US variant, and 15 for the European/Swiss maps.
Best of all, the game now includes a new board, available through in-app purchase. The Legendary Asia board introduced last December as an expansion of the physical version, it’s now made its way into the digial Ticket to Ride world for the first time. The board also includes new gameplay additions like Mountain Routes, an AI opponent specifically designed for Legendary Asia, and two map-specific markers to add some more strategy to the game.
Ticket to Ride is one of the best iPad translations of board games around, taking a fairly complex physical game and making it accessible – and easy to clean up – for the whole family to enjoy together. It’s available on the iPad, iPhone (in American and European versions), and now on Steam Play for Mac/PC, as well as a browser-based version at Days of Wonder.
