Super Mole Escape (universal) by Adult Swim Games is the latest title from the publishers of recent arcade hits Extinction Squad and Velocirapture. Their newest is an endless digger starring a convict mole – and yes, it’s as fun and addicting as it sounds.
The game is reminiscent of titles like Duckers, but unlike those games, Super Mole Escape is all about speed and action. Players launch downwards at breakneck speed, earning bonus speed boosts for collecting coin groups on the way down. There are tilt or touch controls to stay on the main dirt track, avoid rocks, and collect coins and power-ups.
There’s a ton of over-the-top action, just as one would expect when thinking of the Adult Swim Games brand. The game also features missions, upgradable and unlockable characters, and various underground environments that feature new obstacle types.
It’s an extremely engaging experience solo, but there’s also an online multiplayer mode – a mode with a ton of promise. The versus mode pits you against a friend or random player through Game Center with both moles on screen at once.
Unfortunately, there’s no balance to the online system, so gamers who have earned all the upgrades are frequently matched with newer players, which leads to very unbalanced matches. A ranking system would help match players up much better by their skills and character level, rather than just everyone in the same big player pool.
If there’s one thing Adult Swim Games does well, its make arcade games with a fantastic, unique sense of speed. Super Mole Escape is no different, an addictive, ridiculously fast-paced experience for any iOS device. A definite must-buy for arcade gamers of any age, and those looking to take the speed of their endless games up a notch.
