NFL Kicker 13 (universal) by Full Fat is the latest in the yearly iterations of NFL-licensed field goal kicking games on iOS. But with a number of enhancements and new game modes, this isn’t just a quick update, but a great little arcade game football fans will enjoy.

A game like NFL Kicker is only possible on the touch screen, and that’s what makes it so much fun: with a simple swipe, players ‘kick’ the ball through the field goal posts at various distances and angles, taking into account the current wind factor. With each successful kick, players earn points and rack up score multipliers in pursuit of a high score.

This year, the game isn’t strictly about kicking field goals: a new mode brings coffin corner punting into the mix. The goal is similar: executing a perfect kick not only involves getting it within 20 yards of the end zone, but bouncing it out of bounds into the same colored target areas seen inside the field goal posts.

It’s a small addition, but a fun one, necessary for a game that rests its laurels on a single gameplay mechanic. NFL Kicker 13 also introduces a store with alternate uniforms and upgradable stadiums to purchase, giving the game a little more replay value than high score chasing.

NFL Kicker 13 is a little underwhelming the graphics department. Everything looks clean and smooth, but there aren’t a whole lot of interesting effects or animations to see, except for a repetitive fireworks sequence, or the ball trails left when using some of the consumable power-ups.

For NFL fans who want to practice making the game-winning field goal without all the pad-wearing and sweating, NFL Kicker 13 is a easy purchase. It’s not a full-fledged football title, but the clean design and smooth gameplay definitely will keep players coming back for another round.
