Burrito Bison (universal) by Ravenous Games might suggest a food-related action game. Definitely true, but there is no Mexican food to be found – only gummy bears. But no worries; there’s no need for a sweet tooth because they won’t be eaten – they’ll be getting smashed into goo. After capturing Burrito Bison for their own entertainment, users must help him show no mercy to the gummies, attempting to escape out of Candy Land at full speed.
Each run start off with Burrito Bison in the ring with a giant, ugly pink beast. First the spinning meter above the ring must be tapped in order to launch. The bigger the star that the spinner lands on, the speedier the launch will be. If the spinner stops at the pink beast at the top, the player gets rewarded with the highest launch, extra cash, and a better chance at breaking the doors. After take off, users must tap as the Bison slams up and down to guide him along as he smashes gummies and collects cash. Cash earned can be used to purchase extra skills such as gliding, rocket slamming, and pick pocketing.
I love that the game is quite a challenge, but easy to play. I was very entertained by the app’s humor and oddity, and found that it’s charm kept me coming back as much as the gameplay did. The graphics are clear, colorful and crisp on my iPad retina display, and the music is a serious and daring beat that accompanies a great action gameplay.
The level structure of the game could use some improvement. The game is based on one extremely long level in a series of busting down different doors, but if the users falls or crashes, they must start over from the very beginning. I think that the levels should be separated rather than continuous so that users get the feel of celebrating victory – or by providing opportunities to open up other themed levels along the way, as a reward for success.
Browser games continue to make great mobile ports with Burrito Bison, a fast paced endless game with a hilarious personality and lot of upgrades to collect along the way. Turns out gummy bears aren’t so innocent after all – it’s payback time!
